In this post, we dive deep into the phenomenon of psychic attack, also known as spiritual attack—what it is, how it happens, and why people do it. While psychic vampirism focuses on energy drainage, psychic attack encompasses a broader spectrum of harmful spiritual interference that can significantly impact your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being.

Psychic attack can be difficult to define because, like psychic vampirism, it takes place purely in the nonphysical realm. It’s not something you can physically perceive, except through its various symptoms, and it’s not something any medical doctor can diagnose. Yet I and many others believe it’s happening all around us, more frequently than most people realize.

At its core, psychic attack refers to the intentional or unintentional transmission of negative energy, thoughts, or emotions from one person to another, causing harm to the recipient’s overall well-being. Unlike the everyday energy exchanges we all experience in normal human interaction, psychic attack involves a deliberate or unconscious assault on someone’s energy field, spiritual defenses, or psychic boundaries.

This phenomenon is purported to exist across virtually every spiritual tradition and cultural system worldwide. Whether it’s called the “evil eye” in Mediterranean cultures, “brujería” in Latin American traditions, or “spiritual warfare” in various religious contexts, the underlying concept remains consistent: negative energy can be directed toward an individual with harmful intent and real consequences.

How Psychic Attack Happens

Psychic attack can manifest through several different mechanisms, and understanding these can help you recognize when you might be under assault.

Direct Thought Projection is perhaps the most common form. This occurs when someone focuses intense negative thoughts, emotions, or intentions toward you. Unlike casual negative thinking, this involves sustained mental energy directed with purpose, whether conscious or unconscious. The attacker may be obsessing about you, wishing you harm, or simply harboring such intense resentment that their thoughts become weaponized.

Energetic Cord Connections represent another pathway for attack. These are invisible energy links (picture something like an umbilical cord) that form between people through repeated interaction, emotional involvement, or shared experiences. While some cords are healthy and natural, others can become conduits for negative energy transmission. A toxic ex-partner, for instance, might maintain an energetic cord that allows them to continue influencing your emotional state long after the relationship has ended.

Ritual or Intentional Practices involve the deliberate use of spiritual techniques to cause harm. This includes curses, hexes, binding spells, or other forms of focused magical work designed to manipulate, control, or damage another person. While many people dismiss these as superstition, practitioners across cultures report both performing and experiencing the effects of such practices.

Unconscious Projection is probably the most widespread form of psychic attack, and it’s often the most difficult to detect. This happens when someone’s own unresolved trauma, rage, jealousy, or other negative emotions become so intense that they unconsciously project these energies outward. The person doing this may have no idea that they’re affecting others, but their internal turmoil creates a kind of psychic radiation that can be deeply harmful to sensitive individuals.

Why People Engage in Psychic Attack

Understanding the motivations behind psychic attack can help you identify potential sources and protect yourself more effectively. In my experience and through my research, I find that the reasons generally fall into a few basic categories.

Jealousy and Envy are among the most common drivers. When someone deeply resents your success, relationships, opportunities, appearance, or even your natural energy and vitality, that resentment can become a focused beam of negative energy directed your way. The person may be thinking obsessively about what you have that they want, leading to resentment, and this mental fixation creates a psychic connection that can harm you. In my case, my appearance, passions, and finances were all specifically targeted and suffered uncanny losses as a result.

Control and Manipulation motivate many psychic attacks. Some people unconsciously or consciously use negative energy as a way to influence others’ behavior, emotions, or decisions. This might manifest as a boss who uses intimidation tactics that go beyond the physical realm, or a family member who emotionally manipulates through guilt, fear, or obligation in ways that create lasting energetic damage. Sadly, the most common situation where I have heard or perceived this happening is in a long-term romantic partnership or marriage, where one partner is controlling the other without their knowledge, such as making them feel like they can’t leave, in spite of the problems the couple is facing.

Revenge and Resentment fuel attacks from people who feel wronged, whether justifiably or not. This is a big one. Someone who believes you’ve hurt them may channel their anger into sustained negative energy directed toward you. This can persist for years, especially if the person continues to ruminate on the perceived injustice, whether consciously or unconsciously. In my experience, this is the most detrimental form of psychic attack, because it is fueled by rage. In dialoguing with the person’s unconscious mind, it is clear that they feel completely justified, because they can’t let go of the hurt, and the thinking is very black and white, like a five-year-old: you, the victim, are the worst person in the world to them, and you deserve everything that's coming to you.

Unconscious Desperation drives many attacks from people who are struggling so intensely with their own lives that they unconsciously lash out at anyone who seems to have what they lack. This isn’t necessarily malicious; it’s more like psychic thrashing from someone who’s drowning emotionally or spiritually. In my experience, this can happen when someone is deeply enmeshed in a victim mentality (even or especially if you offer a listening ear or assistance), or even with a psychic vampire who you cut off from your energy through techniques like cord cutting.

Spiritual Arrogance can motivate attacks from people who believe they’re superior to others spiritually, intellectually, or morally. These individuals may unconsciously feel entitled to control or diminish others who don’t meet their standards or who challenge their worldview. I used to hear someone gloating about how much better they were than me (whom they painted as completely dark, while they were completely light), saying that they deserved my light more than I did, and even that I was destined to commit suicide.

Final Thoughts
